In Chinese astrology, there are 12 zodiac signs which are represented symbolically by 12 animal signs. These animal signs take their turn to govern a given year based on the Chinese solar calendar or Sixty Jia Zi system. Each animal sign has typical characteristic associated with the year of birth based on the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each year, one of the elements and animal signs will rule the year. The animal sign that rules the year is also given the peculiar name of Grand Duke Jupiter which is associated with the celestial bodies. In 2009, it is rule by the Grand Duke Ox and the ruling element is earth. When you combine the Ox and the earth, it becomes the year of the Earth Ox.

Every year, the Grand Duke Jupiter will move into a different sector in the house and the palace in which it occupies for the year will be afflicted with negative energies. In the year of the Earth Ox (2009), the Grand Duke Jupiter flies into the Northeast 1 sector of a house and its direction is northeast 1. If you were born in the year of the Ox, you are said to be offending the Grand Duke Jupiter of the year. What it means is that the energy in you or qi (the energy you were infused with at time of birth based on Chinese Astrology) is tuned in the same direction with the energy of the year and such an alignment of energy creates negative outcomes for the person. You will face with many setbacks and obstacles in the year relating to wealth, health and relationship. In order to avoid such bad luck, all residents in the property should not sit or sleep facing Northeast 1 direction, especially the resident with the animal sign of Ox. If you were born in the year of the Goat, you are said to be clashing with the Grand Duke Jupiter of the year. In other words, your energy or qi is tuned in the opposite direction against the energy of the year because the Goat manifests itself as the Year Breaker and it occupies the southwest 1 sector. This will also have negative effects on you and the year ahead will be likewise stressful and problematic. The other animal signs that conflict with the Grand Duke Jupiter of the year are Horse (harmful clash) and Dragon (destructive clash).

On the contrary, the Grand Duke Jupiter of the year can also bring positive outcome for residents who were born in the year of the Rat, Rooster and Snake. To put it in an astrological perspective, the energy of the year combines with your energy or qi. It means that there is certain compatibility or affinity in the relationship between the Ox, the Rat, the Rooster and the Snake. If you are one of these animal signs, the year ahead is auspicious and you will have success when it comes to people, relationship, health and wealth.

Based on Chinese metaphysics or Feng Shui, a house is divided into nine grids within which there are eight sectors or directions - the center, four primary sectors/directions and four secondary sectors/directions. The four primary sectors/directions are North, South, East and West whereas the four secondary sectors/directions are NW, SE, NE and SW. The center of the house is not included in the compass directions. In 2009, the inauspicious energies known as Five Yellow, Three Killings and Year Breaker occupy north 1, east and southwest 1 respectively. Five Yellow brings major illnesses and obstacles whereas Three Killing comprises the triple combo of negative energies and are associated with disaster, robbery (financial losses) and accidents. The Year Breaker is the animal sign which is opposite in direction to the Grand Duke Jupiter. These 3 negative energies afflict the resident who resides in the sector concerned. This affliction will manifest in unlucky outcomes for the resident such as accidents, financial losses and illnesses. In order to avoid the ill effects of such affliction, the resident should keep the place undisturbed and there should not be any knocking of the wall, digging of the ground or activities that create noises and vibrations.

A person will need to undertake an actual analysis of his or her natal chart in order to unravel what destiny really has in store for him or her, not only for this year but the years ahead. This article only shows you one of the basic applications of the amazing vast fields of Chinese Astrology known as Four Pillars of Destiny.

How many times have you heard someone say “I want to be rich”? Unfortunately 99% of people who I hear talking about how they want to be rich will NEVER achieve their goal. Why?

When most people say ‘I want to be rich’ they don’t actually believe that they can ever achieve this goal. Let’s face it, if they don’t believe in themselves then what hope do they have of ever achieving anything.

Another reason why ‘I want to be rich’ prayers are rarely answered is because most people don’t actually know what being rich is? This may sound like a weird concept but have you ever taken the time to clearly define what being rich is? Well if you are serious about becoming rich then it is time that you sat down and figured out what being rich actually means to you.

What are your reasons for wanting to be rich?

- Don’t have to work
- Get to spend your time exactly how you want to
- Travel the World
- Help others
- Spend more time with your family
- Not have to worry about money
- Never have to say “I can’t afford that” again

All of these answers are very typical for someone who has just proclaimed “I want to be rich” but how come most people never get close to achieving any of these goals?

The reason most people never actually become rich is the exact same reason why most people never achieve any of their big goals. First of all they don’t ever define what their goals actually are and second of all they don’t believe that they can achieve them. One of my all time favorite quotes sums this up perfectly

“Whether you think you can or can’t, either way you are right”
Henry Ford

Most people overestimate how much money you need to retire from your job You don’t actually need 10 million dollars to live your dreams, unless of course your dreams include a private Learjet. So next time you say ‘I want to be rich’ don’t leave it at that - instead follow these steps below and who knows one day you might even become rich.

Step One: Think about why you want to be rich

Step Two: Think about how much money/equity you would need to live these dreams

Step Three: Decide what is the best way to achieve this equity - Business, Shares, Property?

Step Four: Knowledge, Knowledge, Knowledge - Research your chosen field

Step Five: Create a plan - Saying I want to be rich is NOT a plan

Step Six: Follow the plan

Like most things that you do, becoming rich is 90% in your mind. Rather than looking for miracles I recommend that you start by following the above steps and working on your mind. Next time you hear someone say “I want to be rich” why don’t you ask them why? And what do they consider the definition of being rich? So before you start yelling ’show me the money’ I recommend that you start thinking about exactly why you want to be rich.

Rich people sometimes come by it naturally. Some of them are born into it and learn the ways of the wealthy from their parents. Others are born with a natural bent toward saving money instead of spending it and other helpful habits. If you don’t fit into either of these categories, you can still learn things that the rich know.

One thing rich people know is that you shouldn’t waste your money. Some of the wealthiest people ever were little children who saved pennies. Learn to respect money. Keep it neat in your wallet instead of cramming it in any old way. Pick up coins from around the house and put them in a piggy bank or coin purse. Money has a way of growing for people who respect it. For instance, think twice if you are in the habit of getting a $3 coffee on the way to work every morning. Learn to make it at home for a fraction of the cost.

Rich people also know that time equals money. How you spend your time will determine much about the material prosperity of your home and life. For one thing, being organized saves much in both time and money. Have a place to keep your bills and an orderly method for getting them paid each month. Have a central calendar on which you can keep track of events you don’t want to miss. It takes a few moments to keep up with a system, but the order will be your servant in the end.

Another thing rich people do is ask questions. They are not above learning from others. Are you prideful and unable to admit it when you have been doing something wrong for a long time? If you find out a better way of doing something, by all means, adopt it as your own. No one ever became rich by being a lone ranger who had to do everything their own way. Instead, they learned from the others around them.

Many people have a misconception that asking questions makes you look dumb. Even if that were true, it is worth looking dumb for a moment in order to become smart for the long run, isn’t it? Don’t let what other people think keep you from making the most out of every learning situation. Then learn from it and from your mistakes. Don’t let pride keep you doing things the wrong way!

Rich people not only talk to people to learn things, but they take time to read and improve their minds. Reading will open the door to many new ways of looking at things. Perhaps the thing holding your business or career back is just a little attitude hang-up of yours. Wise words in a classic novel might be the very thing that would alert you to your problem and give you the motivation to change your way of looking at things.

Attitude, in fact, is really where it’s at, and rich people know this. Expect good things to happen. Expect people to like you. Expect success and it is very likely to come your way!

There is no doubt that raising children requires a lot of the life aspects that Feng Shui advocates and encourages. You need wisdom, prosperity, and definitely serenity to successfully get the little tikes to adulthood. Of course, Feng Shui and children go hand in hand as the little ones need encouragement in all of the life elements as well. It is a tremendous benefit to young minds and hearts to start out life with a healthy dose of harmony. Parents have found success with Feng Shui in aiding their children with sleeping issues, health concerns, and educational obstacles. Arranging their homes and bedrooms to reflect the ancient philosophy is a good start to a peaceful, prosperous road. The Chinese culture places a huge emphasis on the importance of education. The way your child’s study area is laid out will make an enormous impact on how well they perform in school and types of grades they make. The child’s desk should sit facing the doorway of the room. If a child’s back is to the door, the positive energy will have a harder time reaching the little one. A good way to activate positive chi in a study environment is to place a crystal sphere in the main window of the room. While the crystal in the window is excellent, you don’t want to place the child’s seat in front of the window. This is very distracting and their schoolwork will suffer for it. Keep any sharp objects or even pictures of sharp objects out of the study area. They symbolize negative chi and your child certainly doesn’t need that while trying to learn. Implementing these Feng Shui and children educational practices can make a big difference in the wisdom life element.

Next to a child’s study space, their bedrooms are where kids spend most of their time. It is important for this area to be arranged in the Feng Shui tradition as well. Your first step should be to eliminate any clutter in the room. It’s not funny. Seriously, work with your child to arrange their things in their room without the presence of treasures and trash all over the place. The balance created in their room will improve the overall relationships within the family. Make sure you don’t overlook that handy space under the beds. If there is a lot of stuff crammed in there the positive energy can become stuck and unable to assist the child.

Where the little one’s bed is placed is important as well. The head of the bed should be placed on a solid wall. There shouldn’t be a doorway or window on the same wall. This is to stop chi from flowing out the window or door. Another useful hint is to place the bed so that a person has room to walk on either side of it. It shouldn’t be placed with the side to help with the balance of the child’s life. Once again, it is vital for good energy to have the room to effectively flow throughout the room. As far as other potential bedroom décor goes, you will want to keep mirrors out of the room. If the child needs to see his or herself, they can always look in the bathroom.

There are other aspects of a child’s bedroom that need to be addressed as well. In our Information Age, it is common practice for electronic devices to be all over the house. In a child’s bedroom, these devices need to be used carefully. The electromagnetic frequencies put off by electronics are harmful to sleep patterns and can increase moodiness and aggression. To limit these effects make sure any computer monitor, alarm clock, and lamp is placed three to five feet away from the child. Feng Shui and children are both natural things. These electronic inferences should be avoided whenever possible.

Other décor comes into play in the Feng Shui and children combination. Parents should help their kids choose the wall color in their bedrooms carefully. Bold, loud colors aren’t good for a restful environment. It may be necessary to compromise and use a muted, relaxed version of their favorite color. Younger children will benefit from images that are non violent and non-threatening. Cute animals and favorite cartoon characters are good choices. Older children should be instructed to limit the number of posters they have on their walls that depict negative images of any kind. A child of any age will feel a part of the family when they are alone with the addition of a family photo placed near their beds.

Using Feng Shui and children’s natural inclination towards relaxation and serenity is a wonderful way to give your kids a solid, balanced start in life. Remember that the use of color, furniture placement, and décor choices are important factors that need to be considered when arranging a child’s living space.

Feng Shui and interior spaces

Feng Shui theories stem from the Taoist vision of nature, especially that our environment is animated by various energies. The Taoists categorize natural elements as Yin (the female elements) or Yang (the male elements) and Feng Shui theories advocate to create the right balance between Yin and Yang elements.

The applications of Feng Shui in Asian decor are numerous. In this first part, we will illustrate some Feng Shui rules applying to Asian decor interiors.

1. To enhance the flow of positive energy, corridors and stairways should be wide, sufficiently lighted and uncluttered. This theory is one of the reasons why Asian decor interiors are usually bright and not overwhelmed with too many home decor accents and furniture.

2. Round and smooth features help the development and of positive energy. Wedge-like, knifelike, and arrow-like walls and furniture should also be avoided. This explains why Asian decor advocate circular and round free flowing shapes.

Feng Shui believes do no only influence Asian decor interiors, but also Asian architecture. According to Feng Shui theories, a building should have three main positive attributes: stability, balance and smoothness.

1. Stability: the building should not rest on pillars or be built on a slope. Furthermore, no level (except for the ground floors) should be larger than others.

2. Balance: a construction is considered well balanced if it has a symmetrical architecture. Smoothness: there should be no strong angular features.

These three attributes also apply to Asian decor interiors: smooth shapes, symmetrical arrangements and stable arrangements are the keys to create a soothing and harmonious Asian decor.

Feng Shui and colors

The word Feng Shui (pronounced “fung shway”) which translates to “the wind and the water,” is the Chinese art of correct placement. The main goal of Feng Shui is to enhance the “Chi”, literally translated as energy, to create a harmonious and positive environment to live in.

Science has shown us that colors can affect mood, actions and emotional and biological responses. Feng Shui beliefs are no different. Here are some examples on how colors are used to maintain, calm or enhance a specific Chi energy in Asian decor.

Red is the most yang (male element color) color. It is linked with fire energy and associated with luck, probably the reason that Chinese brides wear scarlet red wedding dresses. It is therefore a considered as a very good dominant color for the entrance of a house, to invite good energy in a house. In Asian decor, this color is also represented through most of the house through vivid red home decor accents or furniture.

Another recurrent color in Asian decor is green. Green is yin energy and emblematic of the growing phase of energy. It is also considered to be a color of freshness and peace and therefore a very good color for a bedroom.

Another Feng Shui principle is: the stronger the color, the less is needed for it to be effective. This is why in most Asian decor interiors, backgrounds colors tend to be pale where as accent colors are livelier.

Feng Shui and materials

According to Feng Shui theories, the 5 elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, and water) are the keys to create a well balanced and auspicious Asian decor. In this last part, we will consider how Asian decor designers make sure some of these elements are represented in each room.

The first element to consider in a decor is wood, because it is the creator of new life; the beginning of the five-element cycle. In Asian decor, the wood element is incorporated with the use of plants (like bamboo, bonsai or bushy potted trees). The color green is also a way to represent this element and is therefore a recurrent color in Asian decor.

Fire is the most “Yang” elements. Because fire is so strong, it has to be used sparingly in a decor. An ambiance lamp with a red shade or some candles will usually be enough to make sure this element is sufficiently represented in an Asian decor.

The metal element is represented under various forms in Asian decor: silver, gold, copper, and bronze are its main forms of expression. One can be creative when using this element; it could be bronze bowls, copper vases or silver trays. Asian decor designers always look at the shape of the accents and sharp points or angles are always avoided.

A ‘Feng Shui Mirror” is no different to any other except it is a mirror that is placed in a home according to the rules of Feng Shui. The mirror then becomes an instrument to increase the flow of ‘chi’ in a way that gives health and prosperity to the inhabitants. The mirror can be used in damaging way as well so the Feng shui blue print for placement is very important.

To know where and how to place the mirror creates an attraction for wealth health, prosperity and relationships in love and family to increase. The release of new ‘chi’ energy which was previously blocked is now active and results for the good will follow.

Three Tips For Feng Shui Mirrors:

1. To Increase ‘Chi’ energy and create wealth

The mirror is a tool for expansion of chi energy. Many houses have small darkened areas which can be hallways or rooms without much light access. If you place a mirror in these areas you will dramatically increase the flow of energy in the area and compensate for the lack of light. This is now a flow area for chi and you will find your opportunities for wealth, relationships and fortune will grow for you. There can of course be too much light and in such a case the mirror would not attract chi but supercharge the area in a damaging way. The aim is balance and harmony for each area of the house and its particular need.

2. Increase Your Love relationships and family strength.

Whatever a mirror reflects you are effectively increasing its energy. To place a mirror to reflect the family as it relaxes can increase the harmony of the family. To place a mirror reflecting a beautify vase or painting will increase the beauty and health of a family. Placing a mirror to reflect some wooded element such as a tree or timber can attract wealth.

3. To Deflect ‘Chi’ Energy preventing ill health

The mirror can be used to bounce back negative energy coming into your home. Ideally such a placement should be on the exterior of the home But if this is not possible then facing out the doorway. This placement can be used to bounce back the negative chi, which could even come from neighbor’s just as much as outdoor traffic activity.

A mirror reflects images and in the ancient knowledge of Feng Shui it also reflects energy. Equally a Feng Shui mirror placement can deflect energy that is damaging and unwanted. You may have neighbours who constantly disturb your peace. While you cannot stop their noise a mirror placed strategically will deflect damaging energy away from your household. Equally traffic activity and it noise and business can be deflected away from your house through a strategic placement of a mirror perhaps just inside the front door if the traffic is immediately at your house front.

Some Final Tips keep yourmirrors facing outward to deflect negative energy and inward to enhance positive energy Make sure your mirrors are spotlessly clean for optimal benefit. Avoid mirrors with engravings and embellishments Use an oval mirror whenever possible as they have sharp angles which effect the chi flow.

The feng shui bagua map is an octagonal shaped map which allows you to evaluate in feng shui terms any living or working space. The feng shui bagua is a very important feng shui tool and indispensable when we wish to harmonize a place and the elements in it.

According to the feng shui bagua map, each part of your house corresponds to a different life aspect. The life aspects are nine and each one of them has its own characteristics and elements. By properly harmonizing each of the bagua areas within your home or working place, you will be harmonizing each area of your life.

The nine life areas symbolized in the feng shui bagua are: prosperity, fame and reputation, relationships and love, family, health, creativity and children, skills and knowledge, helpful people and travel, and career. Prosperity is the area which you should pay attention to when you are having money related problems, its color is purple and the elements you should use in it are wood and water.

The feng shui bagua life area called fame and reputation is the one which should be paid attention to when wishing a reputation improvement of any kind; it is represented by the color red and its most important elements are fire and wood. Relationships and love area is the one which should be improved when looking for starting or improving a relationship of any kind; its color is pink and the elements are earth and fire.

Family is another feng shui bagua life area and you can harmonize family boundaries by working on it, its colors are green, black and blue and its main element is water. Health, another life area represented in the feng shui bagua map, can be improved by working on that area of your house. Health colors are yellow, brown and orange, and its main elements are earth and fire.

The next feng shui bagua life area is creativity and children. Creativity and children should be harmonized when having problems with children in the family, when wishing to have children or when wishing to improve our creativity. The colors of this area are yellow and earth tones, and its element is metal. On the other hand, the colors you should use in order to improve the skills and knowledge life area are black and green and the element you should add is earth.

Helpful people and travel is another feng shui bagua life area and it can be improved by using the colors white and black and by making sure it contains the elements metal and water. The life area of career can be harmonized and improved by using blue and white in the space which corresponds to it as well as by adding some metal in it.

One of the great things about water fountains is that often, without knowing it, we are using them to bring in an element of Feng Shui to environments we normally view as stressful. In short, Feng Shui is the philosophy of using not only interior design, but material design to create harmonious living areas. Some even believe that proper use of Feng Shui philosophies can result in added health and prosperity.

One of the primary tenets of Feng Shui is balance. Balance is crucial to living a good life, nothing in excess or deficiency. One of the most difficult things to balance in your Feng Shui living and working space is the juxtaposition of actual building materials and the need for more airy and fluid design or decorative elements.

Consider: To the Feng Shui philosopher, we live and work in buildings that are constructed of earth elements, like stone and wood. The cables and wires that encapsulate our walls and workstations are representative of the elemental fire. If we’re clever, we create plenty of open and airy spaces, but what about the last element?

Water fountains are the perfect solution to that dilemma of decor. In your cubicle or office, a small tabletop fountain can be the counter weight to the more heavy elements of our environment. Most conference rooms are stark, and somewhat cold. Imagine for a moment how the soothing water sounds of a wall fountain would affect the mood of what is typically thought of as a dull room. The flowing water and soothing sounds really come through for you during a long meeting or after a hectic day.

In the home, a water fountain can be used to represent the tranquility of your private space. The soft murmur of a wall fountain can be heaven sent, especially during the holiday season.

Often we find ourselves in a situation where we can affect the design of our environment in only the slightest way. Again, the natural balance brought forth with a tabletop fountain often has a dramatic but subtle impact. They’re perfect for desktops or tables.
